But my question is, how do you refrain from swallowing your saliva for three hours (as group 2 in the beetroot study reportedly did?)
I have been told that those who do not wish to swallow, spit.
I am referring, of course, to devout observers of the Ramadan fast who consider their own saliva “drink” and therefore do not swallow between the hours of sunrise and sunset. Which is a considerably longer period than three hours.
I have had this dilemma myself, to spit or to swallow. But it concerned chewing gum.
Sheesh, I think the effort of not swallowing my saliva would send my blood pressure up. And I didn’t know that about Ramadan…
